My experience with iTrip was unique and the industry has changed dramatically over time. The short of it is STR PM can be a great business if you are a killer in sales, want an owner/operator model, and don’t mind the phone ringing at any point day/night. Don’t expect iTrip’s systems to run the business for you. iTrip was sold to me as a technology company with the best in class PM software which was proprietary with a team of developers. I pretty quickly learned that the software has less features and is more dated than most of the major competing softwares. With that said the competing softwares are also cheaper than the monthly technology fee that you pay with iTrip but you do get the Google biz suite with iTrip’s tech fees as well. Some of the competitive tech companies are actually sister companies to iTrip we learned as well. The support team is very nice but historically has not been very helpful. They can help with software related questions but the standards for the brand were all over the place so the iTrip team seems to have a hard time helping. There’s also not much that differentiates iTrip from other STR PM companies, which doesn’t make the sales process very easy. Royalty rates look great on the surface until you realize you pay on gross sales and most of that money you pay out to owners. Hard to really quantify it but I I’m pretty sure it comes out to more than 10% of the businesses actual revenue. Overall, it’s hard to really give iTrip a great score because I’m not sure you get much for what you pay for with support, technology, or marketing.
